Description

Thackholme is a house dated 1788. It is built of limestone rubble with a graduated stone slate roof. The house is two storeys high and has two bays, with a further half-bay. Quoins are present. The main facade, facing southeast, has a later doorway inserted in the centre. Flanking and first-floor windows are flat-faced mullion windows with three stepped lights. The roof has shaped kneelers, gable copings, a central corniced stack, and a banded stack to the right gable. The original entrance is on the right return side, featuring a board door with a probable original latch fitting in a plain surround. The lintel above the door bears the inscription "I T 1788". Inserted windows are also present. At the rear of the house is a central rectangular stair window with four fixed panes. There are two-light flat-faced mullion windows on both the ground and first floors. Inside, stone flagged floors are found throughout, along with stone stairs of two straight flights with square-section balusters in the centre of the rear rooms. A large 18th-century fireplace with a moulded lintel is present in the right-hand front room, and original two-panel doors are also retained.
