Description
Sykes's House is a former shop and house, now functioning as a hotel. It dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with later alterations. The building is constructed of coursed watershot rubble and has a stone slate roof. It stands three storeys high and features three bays. The central entrance has part-glazed doors with leaves, and there are segmental bay windows with glazing bars on either side. A lead-covered canopy extends over the entire facade. Above the bays, there are 4-pane sash windows, which are smaller on the second floor. The building has stone gutter brackets and end stacks. Inside, there is a spiral stone staircase that ascends from the ground floor to the second floor, a salt box located in the ground-floor room to the left, and exposed beams.
