Description
Elm Tree Old Farmhouse is a 1694-dated farmhouse, now used for storage, with an attached barn/byre. A further kitchen addition was built in the early 19th century. The original farmhouse is constructed of limewashed coursed rubble; the 17th-century section sits upon a large plinth. The roof is slate, likely dating to around 1900, and a single 17th-century corniced stone chimney is present. The original farmhouse comprises a three-bay 17th-century building with a central planked door featuring an initialled and dated lintel. There are single fixed windows with glazing bars to each side, and two above. All windows are 18th century, except for a larger early 20th-century insertion to the right of the door, though the surround of the original 17th-century single-light window survives. A two-bay early 19th-century addition to the left has a later door and a single sash window with glazing bars, with a gabled dormer above. Internally, a 17th-century fireplace remains with a moulded lintel and brackets, along with an original flagged floor and chamfered oak beams. A projecting stone spiral staircase to the rear is semicircular internally but squared off externally. The byre is of coursed rubble with a corrugated roof. The present farmhouse to the right, constructed around 1900, is not included in the listing.
