22/25 The Mill

20.2.58 GV II

Former corn and cotton mill, now house. C18 with C19 alterations and mid C20 conversion. Coursed rubble, rendered; graduated stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 9 first-floor windows. Quoins. C20 glazed door to left in plain surround. Rectangular windows throughout with C20 2-light casements in plain surrounds. Plain gutter brackets. C20 stack to eaves between 5th and 6th windows and to rear right. Interior: wheel pits and water channels remain to right (adjacent to stream); no machinery survives. The building used first as a corn mill and then adapted to cotton spinning c1820. Included for group value. A. Raistrick, Old Yorkshire Dales, 1967, p100
