Description

High Green Cottage is a house dating from the early to mid-18th century, situated on the west side of Arncliffe Village Green. The exterior is constructed of rubble, with a whitewash finish, and has a roof of graduated stone slate. The house is two storeys high and comprises two bays, with a further outshut added to the right. A half-glazed four-panel door is located to the left of the centre. Original two-light, flat-faced mullion windows are present on the left side of the front elevation, one on each floor. Smaller, nearly square single-light windows are found on the right side, with two panes to each casement. Chimneys are positioned at the ends of the building. The outshut contains a deeply recessed board door and was likely originally a stable. It is believed the house is contemporary with the nearby mill and likely built for or by a mill worker. The building is included on the list for its group value.
