Description

Ryder's Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof and features a hearth-passage plan. The building has two storeys and three first-floor windows, with a central two-storey outshut that contains the staircase. The corners of the farmhouse are marked by quoins.

On the ground floor, from left to right, there is a double-chamfered four-light mullion window, a three-light flat-faced mullion window, a part-glazed door set beneath a deep lintel, and a 20th-century three-light casement window. The first floor features, from left to right, a nine-pane unequally-hung sash window in a flush ashlar surround, a 20th-century casement window within a two-light double-chamfered mullion window surround, and a side-sliding sash window in a flush ashlar surround. The left side of the building has a shaped kneeler and ashlar coping. There are stacks at both ends and to the left of the hearth-passage.

At the rear, the outshut has a two-light double-chamfered mullion window on each floor, as well as a round-arched landing window in a flush ashlar surround. To the right at the rear of the house, there is a 16-pane sash window set in an 18th-century architrave with a plain lintel.

Inside, in the room to the left of the hearth-passage, there is an 18th-century ashlar fireplace with corbelled sides that support the mantelshelf, along with stop-chamfered beams and a stone open well staircase.
