Description
South Walsham Mill is a mid-19th century windpump located in the Halvergate South Walsham Marshes area. It features a tarred brick tower with a boat-shaped, weather-boarded cap that is protected by corrugated iron sheets. The tower is circular and tapers over three storeys. On the ground floor, there are two opposing boarded doors, while the first floor has two windows, and the cap floor also has two windows, all set under segmental brick arches. The mill retains remnants of its stock and sails, along with a cap frame, gallery bearers, and an iron gallery rail. It includes a fan stage, fan frame, and machinery. Inside, the machinery in the cap and tower is connected to the remains of a scoop wheel and a weatherboarded hoodway. The cast iron sheer extensions are notable as one of only two remaining examples within the Norfolk Broads.
