Description
Wiseman's Mill is a drainage windpump built in 1753 by Robert Martin. It is a four-storey, tapering circular brick tower with a batter at the top stage. The east side features a segmental-headed door below a blocked window, with one second-floor window located above and to the south. The mill retains its curb track, cap frame, and fan stage. Inside, there is a striking gear wheel, two stocks, but no sails are currently connected to the windshaft. A brakewheel and upright shaft lead to the crownwheel. Originally, the mill pumped water using a turbine, but later modifications included gearing that connects to an adjacent steam engine shed.
