Description

Farmhouse, dating to the early 17th century with later additions. The farmhouse is constructed of brick and flint, with brick dressings, some parts being rendered and colourwashed. It has a steeply-pitched pantile roof, and two storeys with attics. The road-facing elevation is rendered and colourwashed, featuring 2- and 3-light casement windows with transoms and glazing bars in altered openings. On the ground floor, the left-hand side has a 5-light ovolo-moulded mullion window with staybars and one iron casement within a segmental arched opening. The first floor has single and double square brick niches. The south elevation has irregular fenestration of 19th and 20th-century 2- and 3-light casements and two first-floor sashes with glazing bars. A two-storey porch projects to the left, with a 4-centred moulded brick entrance arch set in a square-headed recess. Above the arch is an inverted triangular niche displaying a coat of arms. The porch interior features blind niches with 4-centred heads in the east and west walls. The entrance door has vertical studded battens and a moulded doorframe with barred and stepped stops to the moulding. The upper floor of the porch has a slight overhang, with rendered and colourwashed walls. The east end of the house displays substantial flintwork, including a gabled two-storey stair turret with a 2-light segmental-headed casement with glazing bars, and circular east and west windows with moulded brick surrounds. There is a blocked window with a chamfered reveal and a blocked doorway with a 4-centred head on the east wall. The gables are parapeted, with an internal chimney stack on the north gable. The west gable has two blocked attic windows. The east gable parapet features tumbling-in, and a lower hipped two-storey block is situated to the east, constructed in knapped flint with brick dressings. The axial stack is positioned off-centre to the south.
