Description

The Geldeston War Memorial is a Grade II listed structure made of limestone, situated within the churchyard of St Michael’s Church. It features a cross atop an octagonal shaft, which rises from an octagonal plinth. This plinth has arch-headed niches on each face, each containing raised carvings of badges, with one niche displaying the years 1914 to 1918 along with additional carvings underneath. The plinth is supported by a four-stepped octagonal base.

On the top step, beneath the dates, the inscription "THEIR NAME LIVETH" is incised, continuing on the second step with "FOR EVERMORE." The other sides of the top steps list the corresponding regiments associated with the badges in the following order: NORFOLK REGIMENTS, ROYAL NAVY, ROYAL ENGINEERS, ROYAL NAVAL RESERVES, SHERWOOD FORESTERS, SUFFOLK REG, and ROYAL NAVAL AIR SERVICE. The names of the fallen are incised on the second step.
