Description
Barn Place is a house that dates from the 16th century, 17th century, and late 19th century. The oldest walls feature close-studded framing with ironstone and some rendered infill. The upper part of the walls consists of brick-nogged 17th-century framing above brickwork laid in Monk bond, all resting on an ironstone plinth. The most recent phase includes carstone rubble with stone and brick quoins and cambered arches. The building has a gabled tiled roof, with decorative bargeboards on the two northern gables, and all gables are tile-hung.
This L-shaped, two-storey timber-framed structure has late 19th-century additions. The north front features two gables on the eastern side, while the set-back western side ends in a bay. The rear displays three large gables of varying projections, with windows primarily centered on the gables. It has casement windows and a three-quarter octagonal section that is two storeys high with a hipped roof at the west corner. A late 19th-century timber-framed porch sits on a stone base and has double 12-glazed doors, while there are plain doors at the rear.
