Description
The Church of St Mary is a parish church built in 1891 by Sir Arthur Blomfield, with later alterations in 1930 by Sir Edward Maufe. The church features a chancel with a north transept and adjoining vestry, a south chapel, and a nave consisting of four bays with aisles. The western bay of the south aisle has been reconfigured as a porch in 1930, and there is a west tower also added in 1930. The church is designed in a plain Early English style, with walls made of stone rubble and ashlar dressings, lancet windows, a cill band, and a plinth. The roof is tiled, topped with a stone bell turret at the east end of the taller nave roof. Inside, the church is plain but includes decorative elements in the chancel, such as a mosaic floor, a wrought iron low screen, and a triptych by Martin Travers. There is also an octagonal font and a hammer-beam roof.
