Description

Lower Whiteflood Farmhouse is a cottage dating back to the 16th century, substantially refronted in the 18th century. It is timber-frame construction, largely encased in brick, with a tiled roof. The original two-bay configuration was extended with an additional bay in the 18th century. The older part of the building was encased in brick during the 18th century, and a central planked door was added within a solid frame, topped with a flat arch. Two 18th-century two-light casement windows with segmental arches are on each side of the front elevation. A string course runs along the first floor. Dormers with sloping roofs contain 19th-century two-light casement windows. The right-hand bay has a late 18th-century two-light casement window with a segmental head. The roof is half-hipped and features a large ridge stack, originally external, at the right end of the timber-frame, and a projecting stack on the left hip.
