Description
No. 43 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates back to the 16th century but was clad in the late 18th century. The exterior is stuccoed, featuring a rusticated first floor and a decorative band above. The building has a plain tiled roof with a parapet and stands three storeys tall. It has a double bow front with tripartite sash windows in the bows. The shopfront, which is from the 20th century, includes two glazed bows that follow the curve of the upper bows. There is a central glazed door with a fanlight above it, and to the left, a panelled door with two glazed toplights and a transom light above. A large blind box is positioned over the ground floor, and there is a 20th-century railed balcony. Inside, there is a stone fire surround from the 16th century and two arches, which may also be stone, on the ground floor. Some 16th-century oak panelling is present, along with fragments of the original timber frame.
