Description
No. 42 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates back to the 16th century but was clad in the late 18th century. The exterior features tile hanging and a cornice with small modillions beneath a hipped roof. There are two ridge stacks and a slightly segment-headed dormer on the left side of the building. The structure has three storeys, with two windows on the second floor and a single large canted bay on the first floor, which contains glazing bar sashes. The shopfront, added in the late 19th century, includes a double design with a blind-box on end acanthus brackets and a central inset glazed door. The left return front is partly covered in mathematical tiles and partly stuccoed, featuring irregular window placements and a small bay on the first floor to the left of the centre.
