Description

This is a row of three houses located on Southover High Street in Lewes, originally dating to the late 16th or early 17th century, but substantially re-clad in the 18th or early 19th century. The houses have plain tiled roofs with a tall brick stack at the extreme left and two further stacks set behind the ridge, one to the left and one to the right of the centre.

The houses are two storeys high and feature a continuous jetty which is broken by an early 19th-century canted bay in the centre, topped with a moulded cornice and a parapet that projects above the eaves. The windows are irregularly placed, with seven windows on the first floor and five on the ground floor. Most of the first-floor windows are casements, while the two-storey bay has different window types. On the ground floor, the third and first windows from the right are casements set within shallow, square bays beneath the jetty. The second window from the left is a sash window with margin-lights, and the leftmost window is a large 19th-century shop window with glazing bars. Boarded doors are located in the centre and to the right, while a half-glazed door with margin-light glazing and a transom light above is situated to the right of the shop window at the left.
