Description
No 42 on Southover High Street is a house that originally consisted of two cottages, dating from the 16th century or earlier. It was reconstructed in the 17th century and restored in the late 20th century. The building features a timber frame with roughcast on the ground floor to the left and in the center, as well as in the center of the first floor and in the gable to the right. The ground floor to the right is made of painted brick, while the first floor to the left is tile-hung. The roof is hipped and plain tiled on the left, stepping down to a slate roof in the center and on the gabled crosswing to the right. The crosswing projects to the right, and there is an extruded stack that abuts No 43 on the right, with another stack located behind the ridge to the left. The house has two storeys with an irregular arrangement of windows: four on the first floor and three on the ground floor. Most windows are sliding sashes, except for the sashes in the two-storey canted bay on the crosswing to the right. There is a panelled door with a flat over it to the left of the crosswing.
