Description

The barn, stables, and cow byre at Burhunt Farm are a threshing barn dating from the early 17th century, with stables and a cow byre added in the early to mid 19th century. The barn is timber-framed and clad in weatherboarding, sitting on a base of brick and stone, topped with a hipped tiled roof. It features a hipped cart entrance on the north side and consists of five bays, with an aisle to the east. The structure has jowled posts and a queen post roof supported by through purlins and curved wind braces. The wall frame includes a midrail and diagonal braces, with later pig pens attached.

To the southeast, there is a two-storey stable range from the early to mid 19th century, constructed of clunch with red brick dressings and a tiled roof, featuring cambered windows and doors. Inside, there are early 19th-century wooden feeding troughs and mid 19th-century ceramic troughs. Attached to the south is a one-storey open-fronted cow byre, with rear and side walls made of clunch and brick pilasters, a tiled roof, and wooden piers at the front set on circular padstones that taper towards the top.

Additionally, there is a granary at Burhunt Farm, built in the early 19th century. It is timber-framed and clad in weatherboarding, with a hipped tiled roof and supported by staddle stones. This structure may have primarily served as an apple store.
