Description
Farringdon Cottage is a house dating from the 18th century, with early and late 19th-century alterations and extensions. It features painted brick walls in Flemish bond and has hoodmoulds added to the original openings, along with a plinth. The steep slate roof includes two flat-roofed dormers from the late 19th century. The east front, which was originally symmetrical, has two storeys and five windows, but there is a south side extension with two additional windows that match the original style. The windows are casements with pointed top lights. The 18th-century doorcase is in the Doric order, featuring an open pediment, pilasters, an oval-arched doorway with a radiating fanlight and panelled reveals, and a six-panelled door. At the rear, there are substantial 19th-century additions with gabled tile roofs, brick walls, casements, and sash windows, along with a single-storeyed wing (laundry) that extends forward at the north end.
