Description
Cruck Cottage is a cottage dating from the 15th and 17th centuries, with restoration in the 20th century. The framework is exposed in parts, with brick infill, while other sections are constructed of brickwork in Flemish bond. The thatched roof features three gables at the front, which enclose attic windows, and five eyebrow dormers at the rear with tiled aprons. This late-medieval cruck-built hall consists of three bays, with an inserted fireplace and a first floor added to the former central hall, along with further timber-framed extensions at each end. The building has one storey and an attic, with three windows on the front (north-west) and five above six windows on the rear. The windows are casements, and there is a boarded door in a plain frame. Inside, the framework is remarkably exposed, showcasing braces, purlins, and a ridge-piece, with the upper rooms open to the underside of the roof. The end walls of this long and low building feature brickwork of English bond, along with some tile-hanging on the east gable.
