Description
Upper Woodside Farm Cottage is a late 18th-century cottage located in Lower Farringdon. The building is constructed of brick, which is now painted, and features a thatched roof that is hipped to the east and gabled to the west, where there is an end brick chimneystack. The original structure consists of two storeys with two windows. The ground floor windows have been replaced with 20th-century wooden casements in the original openings, which have cambered heads. There is an original central cambered doorcase, but a 20th-century rendered porch with a thatched roof has been added in front.
To the east, there is a weatherboarded lean-to extension, and at the rear, a three-light dormer can be found. Inside, the cottage retains its original roof structure, which includes angled queen struts and purlins, as well as original internal timber partitions, although the lath and plaster infill has been removed along with the ceiling beams. The original brick chimneystack is visible internally, and there is a 20th-century straight flight staircase. This late 18th-century farmworker's cottage features original details and has group value within its setting.
