Description

Swains Cottage is a cottage, originally two dwellings, dating from the 17th century, with later alterations in the late 18th century and 20th century. The walls are of ironstone with brick quoins, cambered arches, and a plinth; a 20th-century rear extension is in red brickwork. The roof is thatched, hipped at the south end, with a half-hip at the north end, and includes eyebrow dormers, with lowered eaves supported by posts, creating an open porch. The cottage is a timber-framed lobby entrance house, reclad in the 18th century and extended in the late 20th century. The south-east front is of one storey and attic, with three windows. It has 20th-century casement windows, two of which are ground-floor bows. There is a boarded door. Inside, a large chimney-breast is a prominent feature.
