Description
Matterly Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the mid to late 18th century, with an earlier core. It is constructed of brick featuring blue header chequer work and has an old plain tile roof. The building is L-shaped, with one wing added in the mid-18th century and another added in the late 18th century. The older wing projects out towards the entrance front, which has an added porch.
The garden front is two stories high and has three bays, with the left bay dating from the late 18th century. There is a 19th-century top-glazed door set in a panelled reveal, featuring moulded brackets supporting a flat hood, located to the left of centre at the end of the earlier part of the building. The windows are primarily purpose-made steel windows from the 1930s, fitted into the original openings that have segmental heads formed by two soldier courses. Originally, these openings had sashes, except for the bottom right opening, which is much smaller. The eaves cornice is dentilled, and the hipped roof has a stack positioned to the right of centre, in front of the ridge. Most of the other windows have been replaced with purpose-made steel windows, also fitted into the original openings.
