Description
Riverside is a group of buildings, originally a shop with two or three cottages, now combined into a single unit. The core of the structure dates to the 17th century, with later cladding from the 18th century and extensions added in the early 19th century. Two sections of the original timber frame are visible in the upper walls, filled in with painted brick. Other walls are constructed of painted brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a north extension featuring flintwork and brick dressings. The roof is hipped and half-hipped, covered in thatch, with a connecting tiled section, a catslide to the rear, and eyebrows over the dormers.
The southern unit is a block with one and a half storeys and three windows facing west. The north side features brickwork with a plinth and rubbed flat arches, containing two sash windows and a casement above the central doorway. The doorway has a plain frame beneath a slate pediment canopy. The south side shows the exposed timber frame, with a blocked mullioned window above a row of irregular shop windows and a door. A stepped brick stack is located at the north end. The northeast corner of this block is linked by a low roof to the recessed northern unit, which is two storeys high with two windows, and a single-storey extension at the north end. The northern unit has casement windows and a six-panelled door.
