Description

Brook Cottages comprise two cottages dating to the early 17th century, substantially altered in the early 19th century and restored in the 20th century. The front walls are rendered up to ground-floor level, with tile hanging above, incorporating scalloped tiles. Sections of the rear walls display exposed timber framing with brick infill, and there is some 20th-century brickwork at the east end. The thatched roof is hipped to the east and features a catslide (a gently sloping roof section) at the rear, along with dormers. The roof is continuous with Hockley Cottage, creating a passageway gap beneath the eaves. The south front has two storeys and six to seven windows. The windows are casements of varying sizes and dates. One front doorway is plain (at No. 2), with the entrance to No. 1 located at the east end.
