Description
The cottage and stables, located 10 metres south of The Wakes in Selborne, date from the late 18th century to early 19th century. The cottage, which is now a bookshop, features walls constructed in Flemish bond, a first-floor band, and cambered arches over the ground floor openings. It has a plinth and a tiled roof that is half-hipped to the south, with brick dentil eaves. The east elevation of the cottage is symmetrical, standing two storeys high with three windows, although the centre window is now blank above a doorway that has been replaced by another window. The cottage has casement windows and a plain door located in the north gable.
The stables are a single-storey, irregular block that faces the courtyard to the north, featuring a window and a doorway brought forward at each side. The roof of the stables is hipped at the west end, with lower eaves on each side. The building is noted for its plain features and is included for its group value.
