Description
Nell Gwynne's Bathing House and pool is a bathing house and pool built around the mid-18th century and remodelled around the mid-19th century. It is constructed of brick and features a clay plain tile hipped roof with deep eaves and exposed rafter ends, along with a brick axial stack.
The building has a rectangular plan with two rooms. The front room faces a large rectangular pool, and both rooms are heated by back-to-back fireplaces located in a central axial stack. The fireplace in the back room includes an oven.
The exterior is a single storey with round-headed windows on the east front facing the pool, a round-headed doorway, and a semi-circular window on the south side. The north side features cambered brick arches over the windows, and the rear wall has been partly rebuilt.
Inside, the walls are made of exposed brick, although the ceiling is missing. The central brick axial stack contains back-to-back fireplaces, both with cambered brick arches, and the back room's fireplace has an oven. In front of the bathing house, there is a large rectangular bathing pool with dressed stone coping.
