Description
Chilland Mill is a mill and attached granary dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick with blue headers, featuring a weatherboarded first floor on the granary, and has an old plain tile roof. The mill is two stories high and has an L-shaped layout with four bays by two bays, while the granary is a single story with two bays located to the right.
The front of the mill has two blocked segmental-headed openings, with another blocked opening above in the left bay. There are two doors, one above the other in the center, with three-light segmental-headed casements on the ground floor and three-light casements above, all of which are leaded. The right bay is blank. The eaves are toothed, and the roof is hipped to the left and half-hipped to the right.
Attached to the right is a one-and-a-half-story, two-bay granary with a door in the left corner. The first floor is weatherboarded, and it has a hipped slate roof. The mill is powered by water supplied through a leat, and the head and tail races are complete. Inside, there is an early 20th-century Armfields turbine from Ringwood connected to a generator, which was used to supply electricity to nearby houses. This system is still in working order and is used to light the mill, which now serves as a workshop.
