Description

The remains of the town walls date from 1266 to 1269 and were altered and repaired after 1314. They are constructed of knapped flint with some red brick bonding. The walls support a raised pavement on the south side, which rises from the end of Keere Street to Paine's Twittern and continues along to the south end of St Martin's Lane on the north side of Southover Road. The wall is approximately 12 feet high on the north side of the raised pavement, situated between Keere Street and Paine's Twittern.
