Description
The Church of St Peter is a parish church built in 1862 by architect Martineau. It features a chancel with a north vestry, a nave with five bays, and a north aisle, along with a south porch located beneath the tower. The exterior is constructed of coarse flint with stone dressings, including a flush cill band, plinth, and stepped buttresses. The church has lancet windows, some of which are coupled beneath quatrefoils, with three at the east end and five at the west, all below hoodmoulds. The steep tile roof displays decorative diaper patterns. The tower is topped with a short spire above the octagonal bell stage, which transitions to a square lower section, and features an archway leading to the porch. Inside, the church is designed in a plain Early English style typical of the Victorian era, but it also incorporates three Norman arches and columns that were reconstructed from the old church at Froxfield Green, which was demolished in 1861. These arches are plain, with round columns topped by cushion caps.
