Description

Campbell Cottage is a pair of cottages, formerly three, located in Buriton. The exterior features walls made of malmstone with brick dressings. No. 20 has a thatched roof that is half-hipped at the north end and has a catslide to the rear. In contrast, No. 18 has a lower-pitched pantile roof, but both cottages share the same ridge level and have a brick chimney stack. The main front, facing east, has two storeys and two windows, which are casements. No. 20 includes a 20th-century porch with a tiled roof, while No. 18 has a blocked front door, replaced by a side entrance. Inside No. 20, there are traces of its timber-framed origin, and the roof is made with pole rafters that still have their bark. The interior was not inspected in 2011.

Historically, this timber-framed cottage dates back to the 16th century, was reclad in the 18th century, and underwent alterations in the 20th century. Originally, these cottages were numbered B18, B19, and B20 according to records from the Bonham Carter Estate. They were listed as "B16 and No. 19 (Dolphin Cottage)" on March 12, 1986.

Campbell Cottage is designated at Grade II due to its well-preserved historic fabric, which has not been significantly altered by 20th-century changes, and it holds group value with other listed rural buildings in Bones Lane, including Rock Cottage and Nos. 15 and 16.
