Description

Two cottages, located on North Lane in Buriton, date back to the 15th century as a timber-framed hall house. The structure was re-clad in the early 18th century with a brick and malmstone exterior, featuring coursed malmstone walls, brick quoins, cambered arches, a high plinth, and brickwork to the rear. An extension was added in the early 19th century, along with outshots at each end, and later rear outshots in the late 19th century. The roofs are thatched, hipped at each end, with a low eaves level over the north-end outshot; slate roofs cover the rear and south-end outshots. The east front has two storeys and a symmetrical arrangement of three windows above four. Casement windows are present, alongside two boarded doors in plain frames. Inside, the cross walls reveal the large timber framework of the original two-bay hall.
