Description

This is a house terrace built in the early 19th century. It comprises five houses, numbered 5 to 9, on the north side of Mount Pleasant in Lewes. The exterior is grey headers with red brick quoins, dressings, and decorative details. The roof is slate, with a flat wooden eaves soffit, paired wooden brackets, and five brick ridge stacks. The three-story facade has five windows, featuring glazing bar sashes; the windows on the second floor are shallower than those below. Brick quoins are used throughout, with diaper brick patterns appearing between the second-floor windows of the second and third houses from the left. The house at number 5 has a shopfront with an inset door to the left; number 8 has a shopfront with a door to the right. The houses have panelled doors with fanlights in round-arched surrounds, featuring moulded key- and impost blocks at numbers 6 and 7. Number 9 has a panelled door in an architrave surround with a flat pentice hood on small brackets, and a curved large window at the curving end of the block. The house extends around the corner into Sun Street, displaying a three-story, two-window side facade.
