Description

Brack Mound House is a house located in the Lewes Castle precincts, originally built in the 17th century with additions and alterations from the 18th and 19th centuries. The structure features a timber frame on a brick ground floor, with the west side rendered. The gable end on the east is constructed of red and blue chequer brick, and above this is plain tile hanging. The roofs are plain tiled, with a half-hipped design to the north and a lower gabled wing to the south. There is a ridge stack on the main ridge and a slope stack to the west on the south wing.

The house has three storeys and a garret on the north side, while the south wing has two storeys and a garret. On the west front, there are two glazing bar sash windows in open boxes to the left, with a single glazing bar sash in the garret and a margin-light sash below. The south front features a two-storey canted bay on the ground and first floors of the left projecting wing, with a single casement window above. There is a panelled door with an entablature hood, a glazing bar sash, and a dormer above in the re-entrant angle of the wing. To the right, there are two windows on the first floor, with a single window above the left-hand window, all glazing bar sashes, and a sash window to the left of the panelled door, which has a flat hood supported by carved brackets.

Additionally, there is a single-storey brick and weatherboarded wing to the right, currently used as a garage and store. This wing has a plain tiled roof with a central hipped stowage entry featuring boarded doors, a casement window to the left, and two pairs of garage doors to the right.
