Description
The Maltings is a malthouse that has been converted into the East Sussex County Records Office. It dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century and underwent conversion in the later 20th century. The building is constructed of flint with brick banding, quoins, and dressings, topped with a slate roof that features four skylights on the north side and three on the south. It has two storeys and an irregular arrangement of windows. On the first floor, there are seven windows with brick-dressed surrounds and segment heads, while the ground floor has five windows, one of which is blocked, with a doorway located off-centre to the right. The entrance is at the west end, featuring a boarded door with flanking lights in a wide segment-headed surround, and a large three-light window above. There are also two small windows flanking the doorway on the ground floor. The building is included for its group value.
