Description

The kitchen garden walls with attached potting sheds at The Brooklands date from the early to mid-19th century. They are constructed of coursed sandstone rubble and red brick, backed by mixed limestone and sandstone rubble, with stone slate roofs on the potting sheds. The structure forms an irregular three-sided enclosure, featuring a serpentine stone wall on the south side that is approximately 1.7 meters high, with rounded copings and round-headed piers at the gate opening on the east end. The other two sides consist of a brick-faced wall that stands about 3 meters high, topped with ashlar copings. The adjoining north side includes a row of lean-to sheds with three doors leading into a stone-walled section on the left, an open-fronted bay near the center, and three bays to the right that have greenhouse glazing above plinth walls.
