Description

The Former Coal Merchant's Office at the former Bakewell Railway Station was built around 1870. It is constructed from deeply-coursed dressed sandstone and features a Welsh slate roof. The building is a single storey with six bays. Bays three and five have four-panel doors beneath slightly projecting segmental arches made from two voussoirs set on impost blocks. The other bays have projecting sills on blocks supporting 2/2 sash windows, which also have matching arches. A bold dentil course runs along the eaves of the hipped roof, which has rolled-lead ridges. There is a stack at the eaves on the rear side. Above the doorway in bay three, there is a sign board that displays the name of the last coal merchant, 'HENRY BRAMWELL'. The interior has not been inspected.
