Description

The entrance gateway and attached garden wall at The Brooklands date from the early 19th century. The structure features iron gates and a coursed sandstone wall with ashlar piers and copings. The gateway is located at the entrance to the garden on the east side of The Brooklands, with the wall curving around to line the north side of the garden before joining the service wing. The wall rises to approximately 2 meters in height and includes a pedestrian gateway near the house. The gateway has tapered square-section piers with domed caps, and the iron gates are designed with spiked dog bars, curved braces, and scrolled meeting stiles, topped with vase finials on the hanging stiles. This gateway and wall contribute to the overall setting of The Brooklands.
