Description
The Old House is an 18th-century house located on Church Lane in the parish of Thorpe. It is constructed from coursed rubble limestone with sandstone dressings and features a plain tile roof. The roof has one gable that is stone-coped with plain kneelers, along with a brick ridge stack and two brick gable end stacks.
The house is two storeys high and has an east elevation consisting of six bays arranged from left to right. The leftmost bay contains a 2-light square sectioned mullion window with a similar window above it; this bay is a 19th-century addition and is marked by the line of former angle quoins. To the right of this bay, there is a doorway with a stone surround and a flat hood, leading to a 20th-century part-glazed door. Above this doorway is another 2-light square sectioned mullion window. Further to the right, there is a single light window with a recessed ovolo moulded stone surround, followed by another 2-light square sectioned mullion window with a similar window above it. Next, there is a 20th-century doorway with a glazed door, and to the right of that, a 19th-century window with a stone lintel and sill, with a similar window above it. Finally, there is a single-storey bay that features a 2-light window with a chamfered stone surround.
