Description
Coldwall Bridge is a bridge that spans the River Dove. It was built in the mid-18th century and was widened and heightened, likely in the mid-19th century. The structure is made of rubble limestone and ashlar. It features one broad segmental arch and two small semi-circular arches, along with a flight of steps. The main part of the bridge and the parapet walls are constructed from ashlar, while the causeways are made of squared and coursed rubble with ashlar parapets. The parapet walls have stone copings and are heavily buttressed, with iron ties for added support. In 1726, a commission was appointed by the Staffordshire Sessions to consider replacing an existing wooden bridge with a stone one.
