Description

The summerhouse at Holme Hall, which was formerly used as a courthouse, dates from the late 17th century, while the attached walled enclosure likely dates from the 18th century. The building is constructed of coursed limestone with ashlar sandstone dressings and features a stone slate roof. The enclosure wall is made of rubble.

The summerhouse is a square, single-cell structure with one storey and a half-basement, and it has a small enclosure attached to its south side. It has large quoins and a six-panel door leading into the half-basement on the south side. The upper floor, which faces Holme Hall, features a chamfered, quoined doorway with imposts and a keystone above a round arch, leading to part-glazed double doors with a fanlight. The other three sides have leaded lights set in 20th-century wooden casements within bonded ashlar surrounds. The eaves cornice projects forward at each corner of the hipped roof, which is topped with a ball finial at the apex.

The interior has not been inspected. The walled enclosure features dressed sandstone copings that slope down to a broad entrance leading into the field to the south, and this wall is included for its group value.
