Description
Greengate Farmhouse and Greengate Cottage is a building dating from 1747, originally constructed as a farmhouse and now serving as both a farmhouse and a cottage. It is made of coursed squared limestone with gritstone dressings, featuring quoins, moulded kneelers, and coped gables. The building has intermediate and end ridge stacks, two of which have moulded caps, and a plain tile roof that was formerly stone slated.
The structure is in an L shape, two storeys high, and consists of three bays. It has 2-light flush mullioned windows with extended lintels and cills, and the window frames are four-paned, consisting of both sashes and casements. There are two doorways: the one on the west side has a massive quoined surround and a flat hood supported by moulded brackets, while the east doorway features a Gibbsian surround. Above the west door is a plaque that is dated 1747. At the west end of the building, there is a lean-to outbuilding that has gritstone quoins and verges, topped with a tiled roof.
