Description
Nos 1 to 3 Darfield Cottages is a terrace of cottages built in 1840. The cottages are constructed from coursed limestone with gritstone dressings and feature a stone slate roof. The gables are stone coped and have moulded kneelers and finials. There are four stone ridge stacks with cornice bands. The cottages are two storeys high, with a single storey porch at both the north and south ends.
The west elevation consists of five bays. On the left, there is a porch set back that has a Tudor arch and a plank door. Above this porch, there is a two-light recessed cavetto moulded window, with a similar window directly above it. To the ground and first floors, there is a three-light window. The central doorway has a stone surround, a Tudor arch, and a plank door, with a datestone positioned above it. To the right of the central doorway, there are two similar three-light windows on each floor, along with a similar two-light window on both floors. There is a recessed porch that matches the one at the north end. The ground floor windows and the central doorway feature horizontal dripmoulds, and there is a dentil eaves cornice above the first floor windows and the porches.
