Description
The North Viaduct is a railway viaduct built in 1905 by the Midland Railway to accommodate increasing traffic on the main London to Manchester Line. It is constructed from rock-faced gritstone, featuring gritstone dressings on the piers, abutments, and the four arches on the west side. To the east, there are three steel spans made of Pratt girder construction, with two parallel girders in each span that are braced together. The deck is a through section with lattice work parapet railings on top. On the west side, there are four round-arched masonry spans surrounded by Staffordshire blue brick.
