Description
Wormhill Hall is a small country house dated 1697, as indicated on the rainwater heads. It is constructed from ashlar gritstone and features projecting quoins, moulded copings, and kneelers, along with ashlar ridge stacks and a single side wall stack, most of which have moulded caps. The building has an irregular 'H' plan and stands two storeys with attics on the southwest elevation, comprising seven bays, two of which are advanced gabled crosswings, with a central range that has a parapet. The windows are 2-light flush mullioned types with slightly projecting surrounds and plain hoods that are part of continuous flat bands linking the heads of the ground and first-floor windows. There are also 19th-century casements with horizontal glazing bars. The central doorway features a moulded doorcase and a segmental pediment, with a 19th-century nine-panelled door that has the upper six panels glazed. Inside, there is 17th and 18th-century panelling in the ground and first-floor rooms, and the principal stair is a notable full-height turned baluster with contemporary decorative plasterwork on the stairwell ceiling. The setting includes small formal gardens to the south and southeast, which are now overgrown.
