Description

Aston Hall is a house built in 1578, constructed from coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings and quoins. It features stone slate and Welsh slate roofs, with stone coped gables that have kneelers on the north side and a stone coped parapet with ball finials on the south side. The building has two gable end stacks and is designed in an L-shape over two and a half storeys.

The south elevation is symmetrical and consists of two bays. It has a central doorway with a moulded surround and a four-centred arch that includes a leaf motif in the spandrels and an outer chamfered surround. The doorway is fitted with a 20th-century panelled door. On either side of the door are two 2-light recessed ovolo moulded mullion windows, and there are four similar windows above on the first and second floors.

The building features first and second floor string bands, with the upper band broken in the centre by a cartouche that surrounds a niche displaying the date 1578. Above this is a dripmould and a 3-light recessed ovolo moulded mullion window, which is topped by a pediment that encloses a small figure sculpture. The parapet, adorned with ball finials, rises in the middle into a gable that also has a ball finial. There are additional small figure sculptures on both the north and east gables.
