Description

Highfield Head Farmhouse and the attached outbuilding, both now converted into a house, date from the 17th century. They are constructed of rubble gritstone with gritstone dressings and feature a stone slate roof, which has one stone ridge stack and two gable end stacks. The building is two storeys high and has a long house plan. Originally, it was likely a single-storey structure but was later raised, with a 19th-century addition at the west end.

The south elevation has ten bays arranged from left to right. The first bay is set back and contains a 19th-century casement window on each floor. The second bay features a 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion window with a similar window above, followed by a 4-light window below and a 3-light window above in the third bay. The fourth bay has a 20th-century gabled porch, leading to another 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion window with a similar 3-light window above. The sixth bay includes a segmental-arched cart entrance, which now has 20th-century glazing, and is followed by a single-storey lean-to that projects forward. There are two additional windows on the ground floor set within former doorways and three 20th-century casement windows above.
