Description

Hazlebadge Hall is a former large house that has been converted into a farmhouse. It dates back to 1549 and has undergone alterations in the 17th and 19th centuries. The building is constructed of rendered stone with gritstone dressings and quoins, topped with a steeply pitched slate roof featuring stone ridge and gable end stacks.

The structure is two storeys high and consists of a single bay, although it was likely much larger originally. The gabled west facade features a central 6-light recessed and chamfered mullion window with a hoodmould, where each light has a 4-centred arched top and incised spandrels. Above this is a similar 5-light window. Both windows have grid-like metal frames with leaded glass panels that were added in 1918.

In the gable above, there is a crest and coat of arms of the Vernons carved in relief, flanked by plaques; the northern plaque has illegible initials, while the southern plaque is inscribed with '1549'. The south facade includes a chamfered doorcase with a 20th-century door to the west, and to the east, there is a 6-light chamfered mullion window with a major mullion between the second and third lights, followed by a 3-light chamfered mullion window. Above these, there is a similar window. Inside, there are moulded beams and a fine timber roof structure with cusped wind braces under the purlins.
