Description

The Methodist Church, originally a Wesleyan Chapel, was built in 1807 and restored and extended in 1891. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with gritstone dressings and raised quoins, featuring a plinth on the west side. The building has continuous plain bands at the first floor and eaves, topped with a stone slate roof, except for the chancel roof, which is slate. There is a stone side wall stack on the chancel and a stone-coped east gable with moulded kneelers.

The east elevation has four steps leading up to a four-columned Tuscan portico with balustraded parapets added in 1891. Behind the portico is a semi-circular headed raised doorcase with 20th-century double plank doors and a traceried fanlight above. On either side of the doorcase are semi-circular headed margin light sashes in raised surrounds, with three similar windows above. The gable features a pediment with a central plaque inscribed 'Wesleyan 1807, restored 1891'.

The north and south sides each have three similar sashes above and below, and there is a small projecting chancel bay to the west with similar windows. All sashes include coloured glass in their margins. Inside, there is a gallery to the west and part of the north and south, supported by cast iron columns.
