Description
Wright's Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed from washed, coursed squared buff sandstone rubble and features a Kerridge stone-slate roof with a stone ridge and three stone chimneys. The building has a T-shaped plan and is two stories high with a three-bay north front. The central bay projects slightly forward and has a lean-to structure at the ground level. There is a six-pane window with a rubble hood mould above it, along with a semi-circular headed niche in the gable. The right side has two similar openings with windows, while the left end bay contains a window with remnants of a hood mould. The right end bay features an ovolo-moulded doorcase with a flat hood above, which is partially obscured by a 20th-century glass porch. There are also remains of a three-light stone mullion with a hood mould above.
Inside, the ground floor comprises three rooms. A door leads into the dairy, which has two chamfered beams. The main room includes a heck post and screen, along with a fire beam that forms an inglenook. An ovolo-moulded beam is present in the ceiling. Notably, the interior retains the linkage and stone flywheel of a butter churn device that was operated by a foot treadle in front of the living room fire, which worked the float in the churn located in the dairy. This device was made by Goddard, a wheelwright who lived on the farm in the last century.
